Address by Master of the Rolls
Lord Clarke gave a forceful speech on mediation in his keynote address at Littleton Chambers’ Third Annual Mediation Event.
A capacity audience attended Gray’s Inn to hear Lord Clarke deliver a major speech, in which he outlined his views on “Mediation – An Integral Part of Our Litigation Culture”.
The audience included Lord Neuberger, and other senior members of the judiciary.
The speech was followed by a stimulating question time debate, chaired by Joshua Rozenberg. The panel comprised Lord Clarke, and Littleton mediators, Richard Price QC, Philip Bartle QC, David Reade QC and Naomi Ellenbogen.
The debate provoked interesting and varied contributions from the attending members of the judiciary, and mainly centred around the controversial issue of judge-directed mediation.
