2009 has seen the briskest start
to any year for Core. The demand for excellent mediation services is
growing and Core has conducted mediations throughout Scotland in January, following
our busiest December at the end of last year and, indeed, five very busy months
since the summer. Mediations have taken place involving many issues:
Parties have been involved from
across Scotland, England, Wales, Ireland, the Netherlands and elsewhere.
Our group of mediators has been active. In addition to John
Sturrock and Pamela Lyall, Morag Wise has conducted her first
mediation in the family field, helping parties to reach a successful outcome in
a matter involving financial arrangements between spouses. Hugh Donald
has continued his active role in management and leadership issues, this time
working with a public authority where issues arose regarding children with
special needs. Charlie Woods has worked with the key decision makers in
a high tech business and with partners in the service industry where property,
trading and financial issues had arisen. Calum
MacNeill’s experience includes disputes in a
commercial contract and professional services in a construction project.
Core has been appointed as the Scottish provider of mediators in
the DTI British Coal scheme operated by ADR Group, arising out of
respiratory and white finger fibrosis claims.
“I found
the mediation and conflict management skills training to be the most intensive
and rewarding experience I have ever participated in.”

Why undertake the Core training? Those who have recently completed
the 2008 autumn course had these comments on their experience:
“Mediation has been an exciting
and interesting voyage of discovery for me. Mediation training was
different from any other training that I have received and went way beyond what
I thought I would learn.”
“Mediation and conflict management skills training has been a rich
learning experience. “
“I was surprised to discover basic
things I didn’t know about negotiation which has been part of my professional
life for 20 years, such as the power of the first offer and the three moves in
a normal negotiation.”
Breakfast Seminar: Current Trends in Dispute Resolution: A Global
Perspective

2004 and in the past two years has devoted himself full time to the field of
mediation and conflict management on an international level.
From his vantage point with IMI, http://www.imimediation.org Michael will offer reflections on current trends in dispute resolution around the world as mediation grows and engages the interest of multinational companies, governments and others.
