The Next Stage:

Mediation and Negotiation Skills Course

Dublin

Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 September 2008

limited places, book early

For whom?

·         Have you completed initial mediation training? Conducted between 0 and 20 mediations? Want to get to the next level?

·         Need more negotiation tools? Wish to add some of the techniques which have developed in recent years? Learn from and watch some of the leading practitioners?

·         Wish to get up to date with what is happening at the leading edge in mediation practice? And refine your own skills as a mediator and negotiator?

This course is devised so that you will be able to use much of the material in everyday negotiation as well as in mediation, whether as adviser or mediator.

What they say

The course was first hosted in Edinburgh last October and was very well received.

  • “This was a hugely enjoyable and stimulating experience, delivered in an atmosphere of challenge and support.”

  • “This was up amongst the very best courses I have taken part in over the last 20 years.”
  • “I am sure your collective professionalism and ease helped each of the participants to achieve something somewhat better than each had thought imaginable.”
  • “I had a great time on your course. I thoroughly enjoyed the company of my fellow attendees. I feel I have picked up a good deal that will be very useful, I would hazard a guess, forever. As well, I think, my confidence has had a little boost which is a good thing. I feel inspired to move forward with a much fuller heart than I had.”

Course Outline

The course is designed to bring participants up to date both in their personal skills and in the techniques used by experienced mediators, while exploring some new areas. These include:

·         What do we need to work on as mediators and negotiators?

·         What makes an effective mediator really effective?

·         How do we negotiate - and mediate - in difficult situations?

·         Breaking the logjam, saving face, the role of apology, making offers

·         What preparation techniques work well for parties, mediators and negotiators?

·         The opportunity to experience and practice skills as mediator, party and adviser in a full day of simulated multi-party mediation.

Participation and Certification

Participation in the course is open to those who have already completed a recognised mediation training course of at least 4 days’ duration. Participants will be asked to confirm that they have done so.

Completion of the Course entitles participants to receive the Core Certificate in Intermediate Mediation and Negotiation Skills.

Who delivers the course?

John Sturrock QC, Scotland’s most experienced business mediator, will lead the course along with Bill Marsh, of Conflict Management International, one of Core’ panel of international mediators and a mediator with vast global experience.

They will be joined by Pamela Lyall, Core’s Director of Mediation Services, and another mediator with wide-ranging experience and a superb coach.

We will draw on the extensive experience which Bill, John and Pamela have gained in recent years as mediators and problem solvers.
